Microsoft Outlook Will Now Allow Clients to End Their Meetings Early So That They Can Get Some Rest

Microsoft is updating Outlook so that companies can choose to automatically start or end all meetings as soon as possible to ensure that employees take a break between meetings. New settings are being implemented in Outlook to help reduce the digital burden of remote work.
Businesses can set their own default plan settings and they can be fully customized. This means that it can be locked for five minutes before or after the 30-minute meeting, or for 10 to 15 minutes after the one-hour meeting. People can also set their own default plans, but the choice of the entire company is a major change here.
Calendar software like Outlook has set hourly meetings for decades and typically promotes and sets the default settings without regard to the break between the two. If you create a new meeting in Outlook today, it will default to one hour and 30 minutes. Even the drop-down menu cannot easily select a custom time without manual entry.
Microsoft made these changes after conducting its own research on digital overload in response to the millions of people working from home during the pandemic. Video conferencing has become a popular way for workers to communicate, but this change in the way we work has its drawbacks, too. Jared Spataro, vice president of Microsoft 365, said: “More remote work is a challenge in our lives. Digital overload is real and needs to be changed.”
Microsoft believes that this small change in Outlook can be considered for meetings. A new approach. Promote the well-being of many people. Whether this feature is widely used by the company or is having an impact is another matter. Meetings generally start or end because people are busy without mute or because other meetings are late for more than a predetermined period of time. The new Outlook settings won’t immediately improve this aspect of the meeting, but they can sow the seeds of change to help employers and employees think more about the impact of the meeting and the need for everyone to rest.
